The Warmth of a Home

The world at the stock market may always be in state on flux. For a stock trader the workplace is one of constant turmoil. His home then is defined by its calmness and steadfast sense of peace. Ar Milind Pai designs one such calm haven for his stock trader client in the financial capital of Mumbai.

This project is a 2000 sqft residential apartment located in a prestigious tower in Mumbai at Andheri-West. The apartment is home to a family of 5. A trader in the stock market company, the client had a very classy and warm feel vision for his dream home, and so did the rest of the family. In sync with the clients’ taste, a lot of beiges and wooden themes have been used to give the apartment the character it required.

Enter the home, and one is drawn into a spacious and inviting living area where the vast expanse of Italian flooring along with beautiful well-spaced array of furniture. Sculptures, chandeliers, cut mirror artwork, ornate elements in materials like mother of pearl in center table, wall shelves and niches created to display the carefully selected pieces of artefacts adorn the living area. The space exudes a sense of high living almost instantly.

An eye catching curved sofa seating separates the dining space from the living. The dining room emanates luxury with crystal chandeliers on the wooden ceiling, cushioned brown leather and beige fabric chairs that look comfortable and inviting. The wooden veneered sideboard, the glass display shelves and unit complete the look.

The kitchen is a neat U shaped area with contemporary look. The white countertop gives a clean clutter free feel at the same time the rustic texture and finish of the backsplash wall cladding exudes warmth.

Large beds with well coordinated walls and floors, interesting bedheads, wall to wall wardrobes make the bedrooms in this house comfortable and luxurious. Each bedroom is unique and designed to the taste and requirement of the occupant.

The linear simplicity of design in the kids’ bedrooms is broken by the use of abstract wallpapers. Based on their tastes, a monochromatic scheme is followed for the son’s room with the use of black glass headboard, teamed with a Grey accent wall for TV with display in white, black and white acrylic wardrobe panels, and rich velvette grey curtains.

The Master Bedroom introduces itself into a well-refined warm personal ambience. The bed is simple, enunciated by the back, which flows to the ceiling and gives a unique touch in a picture perfect setting. Huge mirror wardrobe panels give a feeling of vastness to the room. The break of the rich Italian flooring with wooden flooring around the bed breaks the monotony and gives the room a very interesting and warm look.  The cream Corian decorative highlighters and etched tile work imparts an unusual look to the master Toilet.

All bathrooms in the house are carefully designed. Designer appliances and well coordinated walls and floors that borrow the theme from the attached bedrooms give each a distinct look. The wet and dry areas are separated.
